CONCEPTS / SANTA’S SECRET

A Christmas shop
you can step into.

Santa’s Secret, Bungendore

Kim’s shop was full of handmade Christmas wonder, and it had no website. This is the concept we had in mind for her first one, drawn out area by area. Further down: what Kim went with, including an online shop that shares one stock count with the shop itself.

01 / THE FRONT DOOR

Step through the door.

One big idea: a secret door, with a wreath that changes with the seasons and light spilling out from the wonder inside. Kim’s words sit beside it with one tap to the collections, and on a phone, calling Kim or finding the shop is always one tap away.

Concept sketch of the Santa’s Secret homepage on desktop and phone: a pine-green header with a gold star, a big red arched door with a wreath and light spilling from the gap, brush-stroke headlines and a gold button beside it, and a green strip of three promises. The notes read: the one big idea, a secret door you step through; a wreath on the door, changed with the seasons; light spills out, the wonder inside; one tap to the collections; and on the phone, call Kim and get directions, always one tap away.

02 / THE COLLECTIONS & THE SHOP

Find your kind of magic.

Christmas, bespoke wreaths and custom ribbons hang like baubles on a string of lights. Tap one and its pieces open, with photos, the story behind each piece and a way to ask Kim about something bespoke. Phase two: an online shop running off the Square till in her shop, so the shelves and the website share one stock count.

Concept sketch of the collections: three baubles labelled Christmas, bespoke wreaths and custom ribbons hang from a string of lights, above a panel showing one piece with photos, text and an ask Kim button. On the phone the baubles swipe sideways and a piece opens as a sheet from below. A small diagram for phase two shows Kim’s till, tagged ‘sell online’, feeding the website shop, with no double entry and click and collect in Bungendore.

03 / THE STORY & A VISIT

Come and find us.

Kim’s story in her own words, signed by her, beside the real shopfront. An advent calendar counts the sleeps to Christmas, a peek through the shop window shows what’s inside, and a gift tag carries the address, the opening hours and a little map to the door.

Concept sketch of the lower homepage: a taped-up photo of the shopfront beside Kim’s words, signed love, Kim; a dark green band with an advent calendar of numbered little doors and 88 sleeps to go; a green shop window with four photo panes and snow on the sill; and a gift tag reading Santa’s Secret, 24b Malbon Street, Bungendore NSW, Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 3pm, with a small map and a directions button.

04 / WHAT KIM WENT WITH

What Kim went with.

The idea stayed, and the look went darker and more vintage. The red door became a photographed doorway in forest green and gold, the baubles became three framed collections, and the advent doors became a countdown in days, hours and minutes. And phase two, the online shop, happened too.

The finished Santa’s Secret homepage: a forest-green header with a gold star, and a dark photograph of a vintage wooden doorway with ivy beside the headline A Christmas less ordinary and an Explore the collections button.

05 / THE ONLINE SHOP

One stock count, in the shop and online.

Kim’s online shop runs off the Square point of sale at her counter in Bungendore. Products, prices and stock come straight from it, and online orders go back into it, so the shelves and the website always agree: sell a wreath at the counter and it’s gone online, sell one online and it’s off the count in the shop. Kim puts a piece online by ticking one category in Square, and checkout checks the stock again before payment. Customers choose free click & collect, Express Post for ribbons and small pieces, or a quote first for large and bespoke ones.

Hand-drawn explainer of Kim’s online shop as built. On the left, Kim’s shop counter with its Square till, with a note that ticking ‘sell online’ on a piece in Square puts it on the website. In the middle, one stock count, kept in Square. On the right, the website shop. Two-way arrows read: sold at the counter, gone online too; sold online, off the shelf count too. Along the bottom: free click and collect from 24b Malbon Street, Express Post for ribbons and small pieces, a quote first for large and bespoke pieces, and stock checked again before payment.
